Point of Sale
Point of Sale is the counter till for retail: a cashier taps products onto a cart, takes cash or card, and the sale is rung up with 5% VAT while stock and the day's takings update live. It is built for speed at the till rather than for raising a full document, so the catalogue and its stock live right on the page. For a full FTA tax invoice posted to the general ledger, use Invoicing; the sellable catalogue and warehouse stock are in Items and inventory.
Opening the till
Open Point of Sale from the sidebar, or go to /pos. The breadcrumb reads Industry · Retail, the title is Point of Sale and the subtitle is Ring up sales at the till. Stock, VAT and takings update live. Two header buttons manage the catalogue: Add product and Load sample products (a set of sample AED grocery lines to try the till with).
KPI tiles
| Tile | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Today's sales | The number of sales rung up today. |
| Today's revenue | Today's takings, in AED. |
| Products | How many products are in the till catalogue. |
| Low stock | Products with five units or fewer; the tile turns red while any are low. |
Ringing up a sale
The screen is two columns: the product grid on the left, the cart on the right. A search box above the grid matches by name, SKU or category, so a cashier types a few letters or the item's SKU to find it fast. Each product card shows the name, its SKU · category, the price and a stock badge ({n} in stock or Out). Tapping a card adds it to the cart; an out-of-stock card cannot be added.
| In the cart | Behaviour |
|---|---|
| Line | Product name and the unit price, with a quantity stepper. Raising the quantity past the stock on hand is blocked with Only {n} of {name} in stock.; dropping to zero removes the line. |
| Subtotal | The sum of price times quantity across the lines. |
| VAT (5%) | UAE VAT at the standard 5% rate on the subtotal. |
| Total | Subtotal plus VAT, the amount to charge. |
| Payment method | A choice of Cash or Card. |
Charge {total} completes the sale. The till confirms with Sale complete. Charged {total} by {payment}., clears the cart and updates the KPIs. Each completed sale decrements the stock on the products it sold and is written to the Recent sales log below the grid, which lists the latest sales with their time, item count, payment method and total.
A till sale is a quick cash or card transaction: it reduces the till catalogue's stock, applies 5% VAT and records the takings, so the day's numbers are right at a glance. It is not a named customer tax invoice. When a customer needs an FTA tax invoice with their TRN, or the sale must post to the general ledger and the warehouse stock ledger, raise it in Invoicing against a customer instead. Under UAE rules a simplified tax invoice (no recipient TRN) is acceptable for a counter sale under AED 10,000, which is exactly the till's use.
Managing the till catalogue
Add product opens a small form with Name, SKU, Category, Price (AED) and Stock; a name is required. Each product card also has Edit and Delete, and Load sample products seeds a demo set so a new till is usable immediately.
- Stock the till
Add your products with a SKU, price and opening stock, or load the sample set to try it out.
- Build the cart
Search by name or SKU and tap products to add them; adjust quantities with the stepper.
- Take payment
Choose Cash or Card and press Charge. Stock and takings update at once.
- Watch stock
The Low stock tile flags products at five units or fewer so you can restock before they sell out.
The till shows what is running low, and for full purchasing, reorder levels and warehouse counts, use Items and inventory and Procurement. A busy retailer can also sell the same catalogue online through the Online store.
